This time we're going to talk about
how to increase your website traffic using a social network / bookmarking site called
Reddit. Getting traffic from Reddit is not too complicated and might be a great way to increase the amount of visitors your website gets. As you might already know,
Reddit is an internet community of technology geeks and this is how it's different from its competition (Digg.com, StumbleUpon.com, etc.).
When you look through the sections that you can submit your bookmarks to you will see what audience the website is directed to:
- programming
- science
- politics
- business
- gadgets
- sports
- gaming
- entertainment
As you can see, a typical blonds do not belong there. But that's not what we're looking for there anyway - all we need is to get some traffic from it! And here's how!
Getting traffic from Reddit
Now, let's get to the point. Having achieved good results with Stumbleupon, I decided to try getting traffic from Reddit.com. When on site, I was wondering what kind of news should I post. Accidentally, in one of newsletters I'm subscribed to I read a news about a new hard drive model just being released by a well known company. I assumed this must be an interesting news to share with Reddit community and ultimately a good way of getting more traffic. I decided to rewrite the news from the newsletter , add some pictures to it, and then post it to one of my computer related blogs. Having written this post I also added it to Reddit.
It's important to emphasize that my profile at Reddit had a zero reputation/karma at that point and I had no prior experience with Reddit at that point. I didn't know anybody at Reddit so I couldn't ask my fellows to vote for my post. Also, I had only one profile, so I couldn't vote on my own post myself.
My post on the first page of Reddit!
To my surprise, in one hour
my post got to the first page of Reddit. Obviously, I didn't expect things to go this well so fast. In two hours my post received 26 votes and a similar amount of comments. Soon, the number of votes and comments increased. I was very excited to check my
Google Analytics the next morning!
When I checked my stats I was blown away. It turned out that Reddit had increased my traffic by nearly 3000 visitors in one day! Thus my profile gained a lot of karma and followers. Moreover, I noticed that posting on Reddit resulted in increasing natural link building a lot! People who saw my post at the top of Reddit shared the news on their blogs and forums, which brought me a great amount of high quality backlinks!
To sum it up, sometimes you can just get lucky and receive a lot of traffic with such websites as Reddit!
